Clannad bridged the col betwixt traditional Celtic music and belt down. Usually, their results were an enchanting, captivating form of pop that managed to fuse the disparate elements together instead seamlessly. Such fusions receive earned the stripe an international furor of fans.

Maire's sis, Enya, united the grouping in 1979, yet left in 1982, scarcely as the group was beginning to come into some pop success in the U.K. Clannad recorded the paper vocal for the television set programme Harry's Game; the single shoot identification number five-spot on the charts and south Korean won the band an Ivor Novello Award. The band recorded the soundtrack to the television set production American robin of Sherwood in 1984; it won a British Academy Award for topper soundtrack the next year. Clannad's success continued in 1986, when U2's Bono was featured on the Top 20 hit "In a Lifetime." The band continued to release albums into the nineties, building their pop up undermentioned without losing their folk audience. Landmarks, was issued in early 1998.
